Present SAP Master Data and Data Migration Consultant – ECC to SAP S/4 HANA
As an addition to the Global Team, Claire supported the Local Data Owners of PVM’s
European factories and commercial entities with all their data migration activities to ensure
a smooth go live. The scope covered 104 different data objects, migrating from multiple
legacy (both SAP ECC and non-SAP) systems, following a mixed strategy via ETL and Golden
Files. She was involved in recruiting local support consultants as well as another global data
migration consultant who was reporting to her.
Claire’s activities were very diverse, but always with the same objective: to help the business
prepare and validate (master) data, following the new S/4 standards. She explained the SAP
functionalities behind technical fields or tables to help them fill in Golden Files and
Translation tables; she reviewed data cleansing and checked consistency between data
objects; she explained preload and post load validation reports; she investigated data related
defects; she analyzed data to improve quality and provided additional knowledge transfer
whenever needed. During hyper care, she oversaw master data topics in various taskforces
(End-to-End taskforce to resolve Finance related issues; EDI taskforce to troubleshoot Idoc
errors; Procurement taskforce to support the Global Procurement team…)
A very rewarding role with very tangible results.

Claire brought her knowledge and experience to the project team to implement Fashion
functionalities into the SAP S/4 Retail system in place. Her focus was on article related
functionalities such as Merchandise Category Hierarchies, Seasonality and Fashion specific
fields and their application to reporting and fashion related business processes, including
the impact on existing B2B and B2C interfaces.
She also led the data migration tasks for the articles and related data (prices, inforecords)
when Jeans Centers logistic activities were transferred from the legacy (SRS) system to
Garcia’s SAP environment. She assisted the key users with testing and trained the IT team to
ensure that support would continue after go live.

Claire joined the SAP master data team on one of the first SAP FMS implementations
worldwide. A great opportunity to learn a lot of new retail-related processes and very specific
settings related to the fashion industry.
The main objects in scope of the master data team are Business Partners (customers /
vendors), Sites (retail and logistics), Articles and article related data (listings, size
conversion, season assignment, pricing conditions). Her various tasks include the set-up and
maintenance of the Asics Enterprise Structure, the design and configuration of new data setup to cover new business requirements (covering all business processes such as Reporting,
OTC, PTP, etc.), the enhancement and support of master data related interfaces (e.g. article
data feed from SAP MDM and Informatica, article and customer data feed to SAP Hybris
B2B). Claire is also involved in the many program roll-outs across the world where she is
responsible for conducting Fit/Gap analysis, configuring the new organizational structure,
writing functional specifications, coordinating data migration activities; she is also making
sure sufficient ‘real-life’ data is available in the different test environments to support other
functional teams and key users during System integration testing and User acceptance
testing.
This role at Asics is quite challenging because of its variety of tasks in a still developing and
innovative SAP system, included in a complex landscape. Also, the very ambitious roll-out
planning, the cultural differences, the central function of Master Data and a growing business
awareness for the importance of Data Governance makes it an exciting and inspiring
assignment. The last 2 years Claire’s role at Asics has grown into a much more senior position with Team Lead and Solution Architect responsibilities which has also brought a lot of new
knowledge and pushed her ambition to a new level.

Her tasks are split between 2 projects running parallel. Each project has a separate country
roll-out plan with very strict deadlines.
• Project 1-1-1:
This project aims at harmonizing sales contracts, sales prices and EDI communication for
common customers following a merger between Jacobs and Douwe Egberts. Claire is in
charge of coordinating all OTC master data migration activities: advising the business on
mapping pricing conditions, preparing / checking load files, supervising the LSMW activities
and arranging validation and error solving together with local business owners.
• Project LSP Harmonization:
To rationalize supply chain efficiency a number of countries have decided to reduce the
number of Logistic Services Providers and physical warehouses delivering to their
customers. On this project Claire is the main OTC resource and is in charge of delivering the
impact analysis, customizing changes required, testing and cutover activities related to Sales
and Distribution. In the meantime she is coordinating all Master Data activities related to
the project: preparing / checking load files, supervising the LSMW activities and arranging
validation and error solving together with local business owners. Objects impacted are
Customer Master, Material Master, Bill of Materials, Purchasing info-records, Source lists,
Output condition records (for outbound EDI messages).

Claire is hired at the creation of the Global Master Data Organisation (GMDO) within the
Global Finance team. Her first challenge is to help set up the team and get the newly hired
data principals up to speed in order to fulfill their data management responsibilities. She
trains her fellow team members on SAP data objects and their complex dependencies with
business processes, she explains the different dimensions of data and their reflection in data
dictionaries, she shares her knowledge on process modeling and master data maintenance
principles.
Once the team is operational, Claire’s responsibilities evolve towards improvement activities
and paving the future of the organization. She is in charge of the reporting strategy within
the Global Master Data Organization: setting up harmonized standards and improving
business processes through the centralization of master data maintenance, supported by SAP
MDG and various reporting tools such as SAP BI, BODS and Information Stewards.
Her daily activities are structured around three main elements:
• Support the team by providing SAP expert knowledge and data extracts:
- Support the Global Master Data Operations team in charge of validating master data
requests and preparing reports for the local MDG users community.
- Support the different Global Master Data Principals (PtP, SCM, Sales and Marketing and
Finance) in charge of redefining the data maintenance processes
- Support the local and regional organisations in order to help them understand better the
set-up of master data in SAP and identifying related issues in their business.
• Lead a Master Data Quality improvement project:
With a team of Data Stewards and BODS experts, identify which critical master data is used
in BI/BO reports and operational activities; build rule-based checks in SAP BODS –
Information Steward and implement a monitoring process with correct stakeholders and
Global Process Owners for each business area.
• Set up a new stage gate process for Global Reporting control: The Reporting Board collects all business requirements related to reporting and brings them
through a structured assessment and validation process in order to ensure budget control
and transparent decision-making and reach integrated reporting solutions in adherence with
business processes and global strategies.

Claire is actively supporting both OTC and SCM teams. She is mainly involved in the
implementation of the template system at the commercial operations sites in Italy, Mexico
and Canada and also participates in Run and Maintain activities and user support on SD,
MM and PP modules.
The Atlas template includes a lot of custom developments that need to be enhanced as
business needs evolve. Interfaces are in place with external warehouses and web based order
platforms. Triangulation, tax specificities, quality control and export licenses management
are some of the many specificities linked to the pharmaceutical industry. To support high
volume intercompany sales between all major production sites and commercial operations,
a custom VMI-based solution converting forecast-based demand into production
requirements has been developed and requires constant improvements.
In this role Claire is constantly in contact with offices abroad and plays a big role in fulfilling
Validation requirements (documentation, testing and validated data migrations are a few
examples). Change Management is also a big part of her responsibilities since the template
solutions need to be accepted and understood by all the sites around the globe.
